Suicide Bombing Attack Thwarted in
Jerusalem's German Colony Neighborhood
(IsraelNN.com) At about 1:25pm, an Arab male
walked into the Caffit Café on Emek Refaim
Street, corner of Hananya Street. The man set
down his large bag, requesting a glass of water.
Waiter Shlomo Harel, 23, immediately decided
there was something suspicious about the man
and began speaking with him in Arabic. The man
did not respond verbally, but displayed a blue
Israeli identity card, then requesting another glass
of water.
Harel was certain something was wrong and
began pushing the man towards the café entrance.
At some point, he noticed wires protruding, and
quickly grabbed the wires and neutralized the
trigger of the bomb as the terrorist struggled to
detonate it.
The terrorist was then restrained and taken into
police custody. The bomb squad neutralized the
explosive device which was described as rather
large.
Jerusalem Police Chief Mickey Levy reported
that the actions of Harel saved many innocent
lives. He added that while the public is urged
never to tamper with any suspicious object, in this
case Hareląs grabbing the wires was justifiable
since the explosion of the bomb was imminent.
Levy added police cannot do it by themselves
and todayąs incident is another case in which alert
citizens thwarted another suicide bombing attack.
