Grades K-2 JYEP: Released Time:
The Hebrew Institute enables students to take advantage of the opportunity
for religious education during the public school day. Children are picked up
from their public school by JYEP staff members and brought to the Hebrew Institute where they have religious instruction for the last hour of the school day. These children get a taste of Judaism through studying Genesis,
the holidays and other aspects of our tradition. This is a program
that is free of charge.

Grades 3-5: Growth through the JYEP:
In these years, children experience the religion and learn basic Jewish knowledge. They and their families grow through the many varieties of educational initiatives that the JYEP provides, from Bible study to art to music to family learning.

Sixth Grade JYEP: Mitzvah Year:
In the sixth grade, we aim to gear our students towards thinking about their Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. We hope they will participate in more of the programming made available by the JYEP and the larger synagogue community. Classes only meet forone hour on Sunday mornings from 10:30am-11:30am following the Big SiblingProgram session from 9:30am-10:30am.

Seventh Grade JYEP: Junior Philanthropy Project:
Our Bar/Bat Mitzvah students will have the opportunity to be a part of a new initiative That we successfully launched this past year. Instead of regular classes during their Seventh grade year, students will meet each Sunday morning from 10:30am-11:30am after the Big Sibling Program, and be incorporated as a Philanthropic Board of Directors. They will learn about the needs of their community and be asked to make serious decisions about communal responsibility. Last years’ youth board awarded $1500 in grants to major non-profits in New York. This class is taught by Rabbi Uri who will guide each student and their family through the Bar/Bat Mitzvah planning process.

Keep in mind, it’s never too late to start learning for a Bar/Bat Mitzvah!! A range of ceremony options are available, designed to meet the needs of each family ranging from “traditional” Shabbat morning, to a Saturday evening Havdalah service, to a spiritual Sunday morning learning service.

Eighth-Twelfth Grades JYEP: Pardais:
NEW PHOTOGRAPHY CLASS for 8-10th graders: The Jewish Lens
Imagine a classroom where students are so immersed in talking about a photograph that time stands still. A space where young teenagers passionately debate and connect around issues of Jewish values, history and text. Where they research Jewish communities — and to boot, learn the craft of photography.

Welcome to The Jewish Lens experience!
In this innovative program, students will develop photography skills and techniques, create display and online portfolios, and explore values and community through the lenses of their cameras. The class is open to all 8-10th grade students, regardless of background or affiliation.
