MADRICHA RUCHANIT

Who is the Madricha Ruchanit ?

The Madricha Ruchanit of the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale is a
member of the professional religious leadership team of the
Congregation. Together with the Rabbis, she provides religious
education and counseling. She helps guide people in matters
of ritual performance and ethical conduct. She instructs
brides and grooms, and candidates for conversion. She
helps shape the celebration of life cycle events. She
visits the sick and directs Shiva minyanim in the homes
of mourners. She helps create an appropriate educational
and spiritual atmosphere in the women's section of the
Synagogue during communal services. She brings the special
sensitivities of a woman leader to the way in which the
Congregation serves its members and its community.

The Madricha Ruchanit of the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale
is not a Poseket Halakha, nor can she perform ritual actions
in the Synagogue, or at weddings and other Semachot, which
Halakha limits to males. She is a vital resource and source
of strength for the other members of the religious leadership
team, and is an additional, powerful energy source for the
continuing spiritual and educational invigoration of
our diverse community.
